I cannot remember having such long icicles in SE Michigan this early in the season. Beautiful snow and ice sculptures formed by nature are all around. Have a super weekend!
One of my favorite authors, N.K. Jemisin, and one of my favorite podcasters/narrators, LeVar Burton, has a new short story reading out:
I hope you enjoy. It blew my socks off last night. Thank you, Nora and LeVar!
Moving (really, packing up to move) is a great example of needing to break up an enormous problem into many achievable small steps.
It is also excellent weight-training for those of us with cats.
Today alone I have had to lift my three cats out of boxes a couple dozen times 🙂 My phone has informed me I exceeded my workout goal by 4X today! That notification is very welcome since half of the day was a sit-down meeting!
Have a great week and keep safe!
Apartment living to owning a house means it’s moving time! Fortunately, this is not a long move, and my new place already has connectivity. Thank you for your patience over the next few weeks!
Best wishes in your new marriage, and thank you for the opportunity for my family and friends to participate!
Sadly, Professor Fernando Corbató (Corby) has passed. I am waiting for a non-paywalled article to appear before linking anything.
Corby believed in computing as a multi-user “information utility” and his work inspired many to greatly improve computing technology from the 1960’s onward. Much of what we use today ties back to his team’s work.

Rest In Peace.
A Peloton ride with Powerbeats Pro to listen to the music and the trainer = awesome. Yes, they are overpriced for their audio quality, but unlike most earbuds, they do not fall out of my wacky shaped ears! Thank you to the Apple Store for getting them in for me last month and to the Peloton Store in Troy for the awesome support and encouragement!
Dungeons and Desktops: The History of Computer Role-Playing Games 2e by Matt Barton and Shane Stacks
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
This is a fantastic history of computer based role playing games by two very experienced authors! I played many of these games with my family when they were “new”, and the write up of them in this book has been very enjoyable!
This is a textbook-quality look at computer gaming history.
The quality of the book itself is also exceptional (from CRC Press) with archival quality paper, a great binding, and a humorous cover.

For most I know, their kids (or themselves) are out of school. In Michigan, we have a bit of roller-coaster weather, but we have already had some great summer days. I am really grateful about living near a beautiful park!
This time of year also brings anxiety about wildfires, tornados, water shortages, hurricanes, and other dangerous events, and again I am grateful for technology that, when used with some skepticism, may help with awareness and preparations.
Keep safe out there and enjoy your summer, and those of you in the Southern Hemisphere, I hope you get some skiing in!
Happy Flag Day and Happy Summer!
Thanks for joining me on my personal blog! Over time, like some others I respect, I am reducing my use of Social Media platforms. It will take time and effort to migrate content, and I definitely am not trailblazing in this area! Please reach out if you have any recommendations, and thank you for taking the time to visit!
